Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand had a fun back-and-forth with Paul Bissonnette after Wednesday’s game, exchanging some playful jabs.
It was round two between the two after Marchand had roasted Bissonnette last week. Biz challenged Marchand to score two points and earn a powerplay to lift Mr. TNT’s suspension Bissonnette had imposed on the Bruins captain earlier.
Brad Marchand responded by delivering what Bissonnette had asked for, racking up two points in the Bruins’ 4-2 victory over the Blackhawks. After the game, he joined Bissonnette and the crew on “NHL on TNT show.
Marchand expressed his excitement about scoring two goals in the second period and took shots at Bissonnette’s chirp about him riding David Pastrnak’s coattails, while also referencing his collaboration with Ryan Whitney and their podcast “Spittin’ Chiclets.”
“It feels great. It’s whatever it takes,” Marchand said. “I know you haven’t had that opportunity, but it feels good. I don’t mind riding coattails, just like you rode (Ryan) Whit(ney)’s coattails all the way to ‘Spittin’ Chicklets.’”
Marchand reminisced about how chirping was a constant during every shift during the early days, acknowledging that he enjoyed that aspect of the sport.
“It’s a fun part of the game that I miss nowadays,” Marchand said. “It doesn’t happen enough. Back when we played against each other it was all the time. It was every shift. And that’s part of the game that was always a lot of fun to do, one I didn’t want to give up. But it’s great that some of the other stuff came along, too.
With his two points on the night, Brad Marchand took his season tally to 20 points through 10 goals and as many assists in 28 games for the Bruins.
The win against the Blackhawks was a third straight victory for the Bruins, who are three points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs atop the Atlantic Division.
