Former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron is thinking of suing Coldplay over a viral kiss cam video that made him an internet sensation. The controversy began when Byron and his colleague, Kristin Cabot, were caught on camera sharing a romantic moment during a Coldplay concert in Massachusetts. Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin jokingly commented, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” which sparked widespread attention and backlash.
Byron claims he didn’t consent to being filmed and is considering legal action against Coldplay and the event organisers for “emotional distress” and “invasion of privacy”. His lawyer, Camron Dowlatshahi, suggests a possible defamation claim due to Martin’s “affair” comment. However, legal experts doubt the claim’s success, citing the public concert setting and near-zero expectation of privacy.
A source close to Byron told Page Six, “He didn’t consent to being filmed or publicly humiliated. He thinks Coldplay made him a meme.” Attorney Camron Dowlatshahi of MSD Lawyers said, “If we are getting creative, a possible claim would be for defamation, specifically as it relates to Chris Martin characterising the two as having an ‘affair.'”
Andy Byron’s lawyer, Camron Dowlatshahi, said Byron might sue Coldplay for defamation over Chris Martin’s comment about an affair, but would need to prove there wasn’t one. Coldplay hasn’t responded officially, but insiders claim Chris Martin laughed at the idea of being sued. Legal experts think the lawsuit is unlikely to succeed, citing near-zero expectation of privacy at a public concert with 70,000 people and cameras.
The Coldplay concert in Boston is one of the most talked about concerts after a clip from the ‘kiss cam’ segment went viral, featuring an unexpected moment between Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot. In the clip, Andy and Kristin could be seen hugging each other, but as soon as they realised they were on camera, their reactions became priceless.
The lighthearted moment took a turn for the humorous when Coldplay’s lead vocalist, Chris Martin, chimed in with a witty remark. Noticing the couple on the ‘kiss cam’, Martin quipped, “Oh look at these two… either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy.”
