NHL analyst gives bold Connor McDavid contract extension predicition
Eduardo Razo

Connor McDavid is entering the last year of his contract with the Edmonton Oilers. As a result, the question heading into the 2025-26 season is whether the center will remain in Edmonton or head elsewhere.
What’s in the Oilers’ favor is that they have locked down McDavid’s teammate in Leon Draisaitl, who is signed with Edmonton through the 2032-33 season. With one part of their core extended, the Oilers are now likely looking to secure the 28-year-old to a similar deal.
Since being drafted by Edmonton in 2015, McDavid has appeared in 712 NHL games, recording 361 goals, 721 assists, and 1,082 points. Furthermore, one former NHL player believes that McDavid will be adding to his tally.
Will Connor McDavid extend his Oilers contract?
On Thursday’s edition of “Overdrive,” TSN’s Jason Strudwick believes that the McDavid contract storyline won’t linger into the regular season as he expects the veteran forward to sign a contract extension before training camp.
“I believe he’s going to sign here,” Strudwick said. “His friend Leon signed here. They would have talked about it. I think Connor is the type of person that he doesn’t want distractions. So there’ll be an announcement sometime in the next two, three weeks.
“They’ll wait for him to come back to Edmonton instead of doing it online in his kitchen. I think he’ll be here. They’ll have a big talk. Everyone will say how great it is, and he’ll say, ‘Okay, I’m here. We’re now focused on winning a Stanley Cup this year. Distractions done.'”
It will be interesting to see if McDavid signs his contract extension or if he enters the season playing on the final year of the current deal.
