The Vancouver Canucks are going to have an interesting battle in the crease during training camp in the fall and two insiders have shared their thoughts on if Thatcher Demko will still be with the club.

It’s been a tough last 12 months for Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko and now, he’s been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

Insiders Share Whether or Not Thatcher Demko will be in Vancouver next season

Last Friday, the Vancouver Canucks committed long-term to Finnish netminder Kevin Lankinen, signing him to a five-year contract worth $4.5 million annually, which made many wonder what the future holds for Thatcher Demko with the organization.

Along with Kevin Lankinen, the Vancouver Canucks have Arturs Silovs who’s ready to make the jump to the National Hockey League on a full-time basis, which could lead to a difficult decision from Patrik Allvin regarding Thatcher Demko.

On a recent edition of DFO Rundown Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor shared their thoughts on Thatcher Demko’s future in Vancouver and both believe that he’ll remain with the Canucks next season.

However, Jason Gregor said that while he thinks Thatcher Demko will start the season in Vancouver, the netminder won’t finish 2025-26 with the team, hinting at a potential trade before the deadline in early 2026.

“On Thatcher Demko: Seravalli “sells” that Demko will be on Vancouver next season. Gregor thinks he starts with Vancouver next season but doesn’t finish with the team.” @NHLTradeAlert said on X.

If the Vancouver Canucks do move on from Thatcher Demko at some point over the next 12 months, next season being the final year of his contract, the organization seems fairly comfortable with Kevin Lankinen and Arturs Silovs as their tandem for the next half-decade.

Lankinen has been solid for the Vancouver Canucks in 2024-25, making NHL history back in December for the most road wins to start a season.

In 35 games, the Helsinki, Finland native has a record of 19-9-7 with a 2.52 goals against average, a .907 save percentage and four shutouts.

With Lankinen under contract for five years following this season and Arturs Silovs ready for a full-time role in the NHL, it’s certainly going to be interesting to monitor the Thatcher Demko situation, especially as we head into the off-season in a few months time.
