Snoop Dogg’s Reps Say Lightyear Apology by His Verified Account Is “Fake”
The comment is still available to be viewed on Instagram but sources say allege it never happened.

Snoop Dogg’s representatives are claiming that an apology his verified Instagram account posted about statements he made about LGBTQ+ representation in children’s movies never happened.
This month, the “Gin and Juice” rapper has been embroiled in controversy stemming from comments he made about the presence of lesbian moms in Pixar’s Lightyear during an interview on the It’s Giving… podcast. Among other remarks, Snoop Dogg said that the casual inclusion of queer characters made him “scared” to go to the movies. The star’s reaction to the children’s film was condemned as insensitive and said to be rooted in homophobia. In a subsequent comment on Instagram, Dogg appeared to walk his statements back, writing “my bad” and saying he needed to learn more. But on Friday, unnamed representatives told The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline that the comment was “fake.”
“It is a fake,” a source reportedly told Deadline. Per the trade publication, sources close to the rapper said that Snoop never responded publicly to the Lightyear controversy.” But the comment — made by Snoop Dogg’s verified account — is still visible on the Hollywood Unlocked Instagram post viewed by Them on Tuesday morning.. It boasts more than 290 replies. The associated account doe
It is unclear what sources meant by “fake” in the case of the hip-hop star’s comment, but there was another case of fabrication surrounding the incident. Following the backlash against Dogg’s initial comments, a supposed quote from Marlon Wayans criticizing Snoop’s words began to circulate online.
“I’m tired of defending [Snoop,]” Wayans allegedly wrote, referencing when he previously defended the rapper after performing at Trump’s inauguration. “There ain’t no Hollywood agenda to turn kids gay. That’s the dumbest sh*t I’ve ever heard.” Circulating largely on Facebook and Twitter, the quote included no originating source. Representatives of the comedian have labeled it fake.
The controversy brought attention back to Lightyear, a Buzz Lightyear origin tale. The writer who claimed credit for introducing the idea of Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba) having a wife, Lauren Gunderson, reflected on the choice in light of the new discourse. “”I’m proud of it,” she wrote on social media. I had very little to do with the final script. But I was proud to see a happy queer couple (even for a few seconds) onscreen. I know they got a lot of shit for this inclusion, but stuff like this matters because beautiful love like this exists.”
“It’s *not* fiction.”
