Collin Murray-Boyles’ sophomore jump
South Carolina’s Collin Murray-Boyles has emerged as one of the most improved players in college basketball this season. His impressive leap in production across all major statistical categories has catapulted him into the spotlight.
Murray-Boyles had a solid freshman campaign, showcasing his high motor, defensive versatility, and efficiency around the rim. However, his sophomore season has been a revelation, marked by substantial growth in his offensive game.
His scoring has skyrocketed from 10.4 PPG last season to 16.2 PPG this season, demonstrating an ability to take on a larger scoring role. On the boards, he has transformed into a dominant presence, increasing his rebounds from 5.7 to an impressive 9.4 per game. Perhaps most notable is his improved efficiency, with his field goal percentage rising from an already solid 59.7% to an elite 65.9%.
Standing at 6-foot-7, Murray-Boyles continues to defy positional expectations. On the defensive end, his ability to cut off driving lanes and defend without fouling remains one of his strongest attributes.
His increased production and efficiency have helped the South Carolina Gamecocks to an impressive 6-3 start to the season, with their most recent win, their third in a row, coming against East Carolina on December 7. Their next matchup sees them take on USC Upstate on December 14.
If Collin Murray-Boyles can sustain his upward trajectory, he could establish himself as one of the top returning players in the 2025 NBA draft class, proving that his name deserves to be mentioned alongside the year’s top prospects.
