Must See: The moment Alex Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky’s record.
We are lucky to be alive at a time in which we get to witness a piece of hockey history, a piece of hockey history that could very well go on to stand the test of time.

I am of course referring to Alex Ovechkin’s chase of Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal scoring record in the National Hockey League, a record that has now been broken.
It was an incredible weekend for Alex Ovechkin who scored the final 3 goals of his record setting career over the course of just two games, the first two of those goals would come against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday and his record-setting tally would come against the New York Islanders on Sunday.
Ovechkin would pick up the 893rd goal of his NHL career in the early going of Saturday’s game against the Blackhawks:
He would then tie Gretzky’s record later in that same game, picking up his record-tying goal during the game’s third period.
Ovechkin would get plenty of chances to break the record against the Blackhawks, but Blackhawks goaltender Spencer Knight was determined not to be the man who would allow that goal.
The fans in Washington recognized Knight’s efforts with a chorus of boos on Saturday night, knowing full well that they would have to wait at least one more game as a result.
On Sunday however Ovechkin would not be denied and he established the new record-setting mark in the power play with 12:34 remaining in the second beating Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin for the first time in his career to secure his place the NHL history books.
Even though it was a moment that we were all anticipating it remains a moment you have to see to believe, you can do so in the short clip below:
