He is set to finish the season with 3,928 passing yards and 26 touchdowns, which are his lowest totals since becoming the starter. Additionally, he threw 11 interceptions, which, although not a high number, is tied for his lowest mark since 2020. Despite these numbers, Mahomes posted the highest completion percentage of his career at 67.5%.

Another factor could be the Chiefs’ strategy of resting key players, including Mahomes, in the final week of the regular season due to minor injuries and their secured top seed in the AFC playoffs. This decision might have influenced the Pro Bowl selection committee’s choices.
