Practice Media Availability: Caitlin Clark Gives Status Update

After the Indiana Fever’s morning practice at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, rookie guard Caitlin Clark spoke with reporters about her ongoing recovery from a left ankle sprain and outlined the team’s plans as they prepare for a challenging road stretch.

Caitlin Clark speaks with the media and provides a status update after the team's practice on Thursday.

Injury Recovery
Clark suffered a Grade I lateral ankle sprain on May 3 against the Chicago Sky, forcing her to miss three games while following a strict RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), complemented by strength-and-mobility exercises. She returned on May 14 versus the New York Liberty and has since been ramping up her practice workload.

“My ankle feels stable now—no more stiffness or significant swelling,” Clark said. “I’m gradually increasing my intensity so I can be at my best when game time arrives.”

On-Court Feel
During today’s 5-on-5 scrimmage, Clark displayed quick change-of-direction cuts, explosive drives to the basket, and a reliable three-point stroke—very close to game-speed execution. She also took charge of the huddle, communicating defensive coverages and orchestrating the offense.
Fellow guard Aari McDonald praised her movement:

“You’d never know she was injured. She’s gliding across the court and hitting her spots.”
Head coach Marianne Stanley added:
“Caitlin has responded exceptionally well to her rehab, but we’re managing her minutes carefully to prevent any setbacks.”

Impact and Goals
Since returning to action, Clark is averaging 14.2 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.4 rebounds per game, shooting 41% from the field and 37% from three. Indiana is 2–1 over that span. Clark believes her presence elevates the entire offense:

“When I’m on the floor, spacing opens up and my teammates get better looks. Our next goal is to sustain this level of play through the upcoming road trip and stay fully healthy ahead of the All-Star break.”

Next Steps
The Fever will continue to monitor Clark’s practice and game minutes, while incorporating additional stability drills for her ankle. The team faces five consecutive away games beginning June 10—a stretch in which they aim to build momentum and lock down a playoff berth.

“I’m excited for the challenge,” Clark concluded. “We’re focused on winning every game and proving we belong in the postseason.”
