This week, speculation was significantly heightened about Connor McDavid’s future in Edmonton after ESPN reporter Greg Wyshynski hinted at the idea that McDavid isn’t sold on re-signing in Edmonton yet.

The report from Wyshynski discussed McDavid keeping his options open and letting the Oilers’ success over the next season determine whether he would re-sign or not.

 
Why did we all assume that Connor is going to stay when Leon signed?  I think we all assumed it because we assumed why the hell would Leon stay if he didn’t have some level of assurance from Connor that he was going to stay.  And I will make some informed speculation that I don’t think that’s the case.  I think the next couple of playoff seasons for the Oilers, whilst Connor McDavid remains under contract, are very, very important. And I don’t necessarily believe anymore that Leon signing is a harbinger for Connor signing.  I don’t think it is as guaranteed cut and dry, paint the mural that Connor’s going to stay in Edmonton. I just don’t anymore.
 

 

This report from Wyshynski shocked the hockey world and started a conversation over whether or not McDavid actually would consider leaving the Oilers if things do not go well the rest of this season and into next year.

Now this afternoon insider Frank Seravalli responded to this report and gave his perspective on the situation.

In a new segment on Daily Faceoff’s Rundown Seravalli spoke about the report made by Wyshynski and his comments seem to dispute the initial report by the ESPN insider.

According to Seravalli the idea that McDavid would be upset with the Oilers’ team success after they just made a Stanley Cup Finals run is ridiculous.

 
The premise was ‘If the Oilers don’t have success this year.’ What? They got to the cup final Game 7 last year. What are we talking about here? Seravalli said.
