Things couldn’t have gotten worse for the Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice. On April 11, the receiver, who racked up eight felony charges as a result of a street race that sparked a six-car accident, surrendered to the Glenn Heights Police Department. He was later put in DeSoto Jail, after which WFAA (Dallas) reported that he was released on bond totaling $40,000.

The NFL didn’t take action against him—despite many assuming the league would suspend Rice indefinitely until a pending resolution of the charges arrived— but, for now, Rice has successfully worked around the adversity and found himself hitting the turf again.

While there was a possibility that Rice could be charged with more felony charges owing to leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries, there has been no update since. This is considering the fact that, per the Texas Transportation Code, fleeing the scene of a car crash where there are minor injuries carries the punishment of up to five years in prison or one year in jail and/or a $5,000 fine. Meanwhile, bringing more attention now is Rice’s mother, Marsha Kearney, who was reportedly caught stealing a package from her neighbor and the footage is on the camera.

 

It wasn’t long before the doorbell camera footage blew up the internet after the video got to TMZ really quickly. The video shows a woman wearing a custom #4 Chiefs jersey that said “Momma Rice” on the back as she walked past the neighbor’s camera with a cup in one hand and a phone in the other.

She walks past the camera checking if anyone’s around and then comes back to reportedly slide the package with her foot away from the line of sight of the camera. The camera recorded her lifting the box and walking away.

Per the Texas resident accusing Kearney of theft, the package had limited edition Chappell Roan records that they purchased from Urban Outfitters. TMZ reached out to law enforcement, who confirmed that they indeed received reports about the stolen package on Wednesday. The incident happened around 6:39 PM CT on September 29, hours after the Chiefs defeated the Chargers, and her son, who recorded 24 receptions for 288 yards and 2 touchdowns so far this season, suffered a knee injury.

About Rice’s injury, rumors are going around that the hit he took to his knees won’t put him out for the whole season, but again, those are rumors. Everything was going smooth on the gridiron after Rice caught a case in Dallas for rash driving, but now, he might have a lot on his mind.

 

Rashee Rice’s previous run-in with the law

Rice was in high spirits after winning the Super Bowl in February but came crashing down by the end of March when he racked up eight felony charges following a car crash at Dallas’ Central Expressway. The video footage showed Rice overspeeding (119 miles per hour) in one of the cars (Lamborghini Urus)—both of which were registered to Rice—losing control and crashing it into the divider, causing a chain-reaction car crash.

Per Adam Schefter, “Police said that arrest warrants have been issued for the 23-year-old Rice for one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury. Rice’s attorney, state Sen. Royce West, said last week that Rice had been driving a Lamborghini sport utility vehicle when the crash occurred.”

 

The worst part of it all was the Kansas City Chiefs receiver leaving the accident scene without offering help to the victims. A person involved in the crash had a “laceration on her left eye, a swollen eye socket and a couple of stitches” per their lawyer, Tennesse Walker. Rice has been dealing with all this since late March without any actionable intervention from the NFL. On the other hand, as for the driver of the other car (a Chevrolet Corvette), Southern Methodist University had already suspended Theodore Knox.
