Lionel Messi 17th & Mohamed Salah 3rd - The most valuable players out of contract in 2025
With the 2024/25 football season now in full flow, a number of top players are entering the last year of their contracts. The prospect of losing valuable assets for free next summer will spark panic amongst senior club figures and decisions will need to be made on their futures and quick. Some clubs may attempt to convince their stars to sign new deals, while others could look to sell-up in this January transfer window to avoid them leaving for nothing six months later.

The free agent market is extremely attractive to potential buyers and clubs will be able to officially approach players that aren’t with teams in their own leagues, on January 1, when they have just six months left on their contracts. With so many players now having less than 12 months left of their deals, we’ve analysed the most valuable players with contracts expiring in the summer of 2025, and there are a number of top quality talents that could be available on a free transfer next July.

The most valuable free agents in 2025

In first place as the most valuable player entering the last year of his current contract is Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Liverpool right-back has a market value of €70m, and has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid next summer. He is the current vice captain at Anfield, and has been at the club since he was six years old, progressing through the various youth teams to become a key player at Liverpool. He has won both the Champions League and the Premier League with the Reds, but the opportunity to join ‘Los Blancos’ and be the successor to Dani Carvajal may be too tempting to deny.

In second place is Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané with a market value of €60m. The former Manchester City player has been linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs including Manchester United. In third is another Liverpool star in 33-year-old Mohamed Salah with a market value of €55m. He is the club’s all-time top Premier League scorer with 140 goals, but has been linked with a summer move to the Saudi Pro League. In fourth is Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies – the 23-year-old Canadian has a market value of €50m. Bayern’s dominance over the list continues, with 29-year-old midfielder Joshua Kimmich in fifth – also boasting a €50m market value.

Sixth place goes to Lille striker Jonathan David, with the 24 year old having a current market value of €45m. He is followed by Tottenham’s Heung-min Son and Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne – both also having a €45m market value, but Son leading being one year De Bruyne’s junior. Bayer Leverkusen’s 28-year-old defender Jonathan Tah comes in ninth with a €30m market value, with Al-Hilal superstar Neymar completing the top 10, also with a €30m valuation.

As illustrated in the graphic above, if we combine an XI of the most valuable players running out of contract next summer, it creates a fearsome line-up. PSV’s Walter Benítez is in between the sticks. The experience of Tah and Virgil van Dijk at centre-back is flanked by two of the world’s best full-backs in Alexander-Arnold and Davies. Kimmich then holds the midfield. In front of him, the creative force that is De Bruyne, is joined by Lille and England midfielder Angel Gomes. Then the front three pits Salah and Sané on the wings with David through the middle. It showcases that there is plenty of talent that could be available on a free on July 1, 2025.

### Canada Shuts Down Tesla and U.S. Auto Industry—Elon Musk’s 9-Word Response Leaves the World Stunned In a **bold and unexpected move**, Canada has made a shocking decision to **shut down Tesla operations** and **impact the broader U.S. auto industry**. The Canadian government, citing **new environmental regulations** and **trade agreements**, announced that **Tesla’s production facilities and distribution networks in the country would be phased out**. This surprising action has sent **ripples through both the Canadian and American automotive industries**, and the response from **Elon Musk** has left everyone stunned. **Musk, never one to shy away from controversy**, responded to the news with a **cryptic and powerful statement**—just **nine words—that immediately captured global attention.** In a tweet that quickly went viral, Musk simply said, *“This is only the beginning. Watch closely. The truth’s coming.”* The brief yet bold statement sparked immediate speculation and curiosity about what Musk meant by **“the truth’s coming”**, especially given his long history of defying expectations in the world of **technology and business**. The Canadian government’s decision was fueled by a combination of factors, including **escalating environmental concerns** and the desire to **create a more sustainable, domestic auto industry**. Canada has been pursuing a green agenda, and **Tesla’s presence in the country**—which has been highly reliant on **electric vehicle (EV) technology**—was seen as both an asset and a potential hurdle to **promoting domestic innovation** in EV development. This controversial decision has put pressure on the **U.S. auto industry**, which views Canada as a crucial partner in the supply chain for materials and production. While **Tesla’s fans and supporters** in Canada were left **devastated** by the announcement, **Musk’s response** quickly fueled rumors of a larger, more complex strategy at play. Many fans of Tesla speculated that Musk had a deeper plan for the future of Tesla, including **expanding into new territories or markets** where his company would not be subject to such **political pressures**. Musk’s reputation for **disrupting industries** left many wondering whether this move was part of a **larger game plan to revolutionize the automotive world** once again. Industry analysts, however, have been quick to point out that **this bold move by Canada** could have serious ramifications for the **global auto industry**, particularly in the transition to electric vehicles. Canada had long been seen as a **key partner** in the EV revolution, providing important **resources** like **nickel** and **cobalt** for battery production. By shutting down Tesla’s operations, Canada is now forcing the **U.S. auto industry to pivot** and seek new suppliers, which could slow the momentum of the EV transition. In response to the **Canadian decision**, Musk did not hold back, further intensifying the speculation. *“We’re not slowing down, we’re just getting started,”* Musk tweeted later that day. His statement left industry insiders and journalists wondering what he meant by this and whether **Tesla’s move could mean a shift in global manufacturing power**. Could this mean **Tesla would set up production in new countries** that align with its values of **innovation and sustainability**? Musk’s words sparked an outpouring of comments, with some accusing the Canadian government of **undermining progress** and others praising the boldness of the move, claiming that **Tesla’s success had outgrown Canada’s regulatory system**. The situation has raised questions about the **balance between government regulations and corporate autonomy**, and whether **Tesla’s vision for the future of transportation** is too big for any single nation’s borders to control. While the immediate impact of Canada’s move has yet to be fully seen, the implications for the **future of electric vehicles and the global automotive market** are enormous. Tesla has been at the forefront of innovation in the electric vehicle sector, and its **global footprint** has been an important factor in the company’s ability to drive change. As **Elon Musk’s cryptic response** suggests, the story is far from over—**the next steps** in this ongoing drama will shape the future of both **Tesla** and the **global automotive industry**. As the situation unfolds, **the world watches eagerly**, waiting for Musk’s next move and the details of the **plans** he has in place. Whether this is simply a **temporary setback** or the beginning of a **larger transformation** in the global auto industry, one thing is clear—**Elon Musk is not done challenging the status quo**, and his next steps could **change the industry forever**.
