Chris Jones has agreed a stunning new five-year, $158.75million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs – making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL.
Jones, who has spent the last eight seasons in Kansas City, was just a few days away from entering the open market before the Chiefs struck a deal with their Super Bowl-winning defensive lineman.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 29-year-old is set to stay at Arrowhead for another five years after agreeing a bumper new deal; which includes a $158.75m base and $101m in guarantees. The Chiefs confirmed Jones is staying in Kansas City Monday afternoon.
He will also receive a signing bonus worth $30m, his first two years guaranteed and his 2026 base salary guaranteed in 2025.
The deal – which equates to $31.75m per year – is a league high for a defensive lineman, surpassing LA Rams star Aaron Donald’s $31.6m-a-year contract.

He recently helped the Chiefs claim back-to-back Super Bowls vs the San Francisco 49ers
Jones has helped the Chiefs claim three Super Bowls in his eight-year spell with the team, most recently playing his part in a dramatic overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers which earned them a second straight Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Now he will join his teammates in their bid to secure a historic three-peat next season, an achievement which has never been done in NFL history.
Chiefs GM Brett Veach recently opened up on their desire to keep Jones around in Kansas City, saying at this year’s NFL Combine: ‘He’s at the top of the list.’
‘I love Chris,’ Veach added. ‘Tried really hard to get something done and we didn’t. When we got together right after that Detroit game, we had a great talk. Both parties want to be here, so we’ll get to work.
‘He’s certainly a guy we want back and love and want to see him finish his career in Kansas City.’
As well as being a three-time Super Bowl champion, Jones is also a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All Pro.
The former Mississippi State star has also recorded consecutive double-digit seasons and is renowned for coming up clutch on the biggest occasions.
