Congress Orders the Clintons to Testify in Epstein Depositions — No Escape Allowed
Congress has officially ordered former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to appear for depositions next month as part of the ongoing investigation into the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. This move comes after the Clintons attempted to avoid in-person testimony before the House Oversight Committee, instead requesting to submit written statements—a request that was firmly denied.
Clintons’ Attempt to Avoid In-Person Testimony Denied

On November 3, the Clintons’ attorney, David Kendall, sent a letter to the House Oversight Committee requesting that Bill and Hillary Clinton be allowed to submit “a written proffer of what little information” they have regarding Epstein, rather than appear in person. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) rejected the request on Friday, insisting that both Clintons testify in person.
“As your letter indicates, both President Clinton and Secretary Clinton possess information relevant to the Committee’s investigation,” Comer wrote.
“Additionally, your suggestion that your clients’ testimony would not be relevant to the stated purposes of the Committee’s investigation because the events in question took place outside of the Clintons’ respective official duties, misses the Committee’s point. It is precisely the fact President Clinton and Secretary Clinton each maintained relationships with Mr. Epstein and Ms. [Ghislaine] Maxwell in their personal capacities as private citizens that is of interest to the Committee.”
Deposition Dates Announced
Chairman Comer has scheduled the depositions for:
– Bill Clinton: December 17, 10:00 a.m.
– Hillary Clinton: December 18, 10:00 a.m.
This follows a July vote by a House Oversight panel to subpoena the Clintons, as well as former law enforcement leaders and additional files related to Epstein. The vote saw bipartisan support, with three Republicans joining five Democrats to approve the subpoenas. Comer formally issued the subpoenas to the Clintons on August 5.
Renewed Scrutiny After DOJ Investigation

The order for the Clintons’ testimony comes after former President Donald Trump directed the Justice Department to investigate Bill Clinton’s ties to Epstein. Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that “new information” has emerged, warranting further investigation into Epstein and those connected to him, despite the Justice Department having closed its Epstein probe earlier this year.
President Trump also signed legislation this week to release the remaining Epstein files, arguing that Democrats have used the Epstein “hoax” as a distraction from other issues.
Clinton-Epstein Connections
Flight records indicate that Bill Clinton traveled multiple times with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell on Epstein’s private jet, known as the “Lolita Express.” Destinations included Bangkok, Brunei, Rwanda, Russia, and China. Trump has publicly suggested that Clinton visited Epstein’s private island in the Virgin Islands, though Clinton has denied ever setting foot on the island. An email released by the House Oversight Committee earlier this month quoted Epstein stating that Bill Clinton “was NEVER EVER there, never.”
There is no evidence that Hillary Clinton traveled with Epstein, and neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton has been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein’s crimes.
The Clintons’ Response
In his November 3 letter, the Clintons’ attorney stated that both Bill and Hillary “welcome legitimate oversight,” and are committed to uncovering the truth behind Epstein’s and Maxwell’s crimes. However, he argued that the Clintons “have little to contribute to that legitimate goal, all of which can be readily submitted on paper.”
Chairman Comer disagreed, emphasizing the committee’s right to a comprehensive, in-person examination of the Clintons’ knowledge about Epstein and the importance of being able to ask follow-up questions.
What Comes Next
With depositions set for December 17 and 18, the Clintons will face direct questioning from Congress about their personal relationships with Epstein and Maxwell. The hearings mark a significant development in the investigation, as lawmakers seek to clarify the extent of the Clintons’ connections to Epstein and what knowledge they may possess about his activities.
While neither Clinton has been accused of criminal wrongdoing in connection with Epstein, the committee’s insistence on in-person testimony signals a determination to leave no stone unturned in the high-profile probe.
