Elon Musk to build 100mph ‘wormhole’ mega tunnel that aims to transport 20,000 people per hour anywhere they want

‘It’s going to seem so obvious in retrospect’

Elon Musk has announced he will build a mega tunnel loop under Dubai where passengers can travel anywhere in six minutes.

The world’s richest man is back at it again – but not for his Telsa ambitions or his next plans at DOGE.

Instead, Musk announced that his company, The Boring Company, has signed a deal that will revolutionise how people travel in the UAE city.

The SpaceX founder unveiled the plans alongside UAE’s AI minister Omar Al Olama at the World Governments Summit.

The Boring Company is one of Elon Musk’s that builds underground transportation tunnels to help reduce traffic congestion in cities.

Their probably most famous project is the Las Vegas underground loop where Teslas shuttle people between key locations.

“Once people try it out, they’re going to say: ‘Wow, it’s really cool.’ It’s going to seem so obvious in retrospect,” the tech billionaire confidently remarked.

Now, he’s got his eyes on a ‘wormhole’ under Dubai, allowing people to go ‘from one part of the city, boom, and you’re at another part of the city.’

The Dubai Loop will stretch 17km underground, connecting more than 100 stations across the city.

Using a fleet of driverless vehicles, it could transport up to 20,000 passengers per hour to major transport hubs and landmarks.

With Dubai’s population exploding, traffic congestion is becoming a real problem.

As a result, the city is seeking innovative ways to handle overcrowding and sustainability. So really, Musk’s project is timed pretty well.

The network underground will reduce surface congestion which means fewer traffic jams and faster travel.

Another key benefit is that passengers will be sheltered from the extreme Dubai weather. With everything cooler underground, passengers won’t be held in stuffy cabins.

“If you have bad weather, like let’s say there’s a blizzard or a sandstorm, well, now nobody can fly. None of these problems exist with underground travel,” the 53-year-old added.

“We have a demonstration case of this in Las Vegas, connecting the whole city with all of the big hotels and the convention centre, the airport and everything.” Dubai’s government has confirmed that it’s officially partnering with The Boring Company to study the project’s feasibility.

A signing ceremony saw Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan overseeing the deal.

As for when it’ll be ready? Well, there’s no confirmed timeline yet, but Musk and Olama have promised they’ll be the first passengers when it’s complete.

So, when that happens, you’ll know they’re serious.
