Erika Kirk Reveals She Prayed to Be Pregnant After Charlie Kirk’s Death, Calling It “the Ultimate Blessing”
In the wake of tragedy, Erika Kirk—widow of conservative commentator and Turning Point USA cofounder Charlie Kirk—has shared her heartbreak and hopes for the future in a deeply emotional interview with Megyn Kelly. The couple, who dreamed of expanding their family, were struck by unimaginable loss when Charlie was fatally shot at Utah Valley University earlier this year.
A Family Dream Interrupted

Erika and Charlie Kirk’s story began in September 2018, blossoming into an engagement in December 2020 and marriage in May 2021. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Sarah Rose, in August 2022 and a son in May 2024. The couple’s plans for a larger family were a source of joy and anticipation.
“We wanted to have four [children],” Erika revealed. “And I was praying to God that I was pregnant when he got murdered. … Both of us were, we were really excited to just expand our family.” For Erika, the possibility of another child represented “the ultimate blessing out of this catastrophe.”
A Message to Young Couples
Through tears, Erika shared a powerful message for others: “Now when I see young couples, I tell them, ‘Please, don’t put it off.’ Especially if you’re a young woman, don’t put it off. You can always have a career, you can always go back to work. You can never just go back to having children.” Her words, born of loss and longing, reflect the Kirk family’s belief in the importance of cherishing loved ones and embracing life’s milestones without delay.
Remembering Charlie Kirk
Charlie Kirk was a prominent figure in conservative politics, known for his passionate advocacy and leadership at Turning Point USA. He often spoke about the transformative power of fatherhood and family. In a Father’s Day post last June, he wrote, “Being a father is the greatest blessing. It teaches you, grows you, motivates you and changes you. I pray daily for an uprising of strong Christian fathers in this country. That they would love God, love their wives and love their kids. Thank you, God, for healthy kids and an amazing wife to raise them with!”
Charlie’s gratitude for his family was evident in his public life. On his daughter’s birthday in August, he wrote, “Teaching her to know God, alongside [Erika], is the greatest privilege. Having a family will change your life in the best ways, so get married and have kids. You won’t regret it.”
Love, Faith, and Loss
Erika Kirk’s devotion to her husband was clear in her anniversary tribute this May: “Four sacred years. My best friend, my warrior, my calm in every storm. We entered this covenant with open hearts, not knowing all that would come — but knowing who we were anchored in. We’ve laughed in the highs, we’ve wept in the lows and we’ve held the miracle of life in our arms twice.”
She continued, “You live the gospel — not just in word, but in the way you love, lead and serve. Through you, I’ve learned what it truly means to grow … as a wife, as a mother and as a woman called to walk this life beside you. It’s you and me — with God always at the center. I will always be grateful. I will always be yours. Eternity is ours [Charlie]; I love you baby.”
Moving Forward With Hope

As Erika Kirk navigates the aftermath of her husband’s death, she remains anchored by faith, family, and the hope of new life. Megyn Kelly comforted Erika during their interview, assuring her that “one day” her son and daughter “will find out they’re Charlie Kirk’s children and they’ll know what that means.”
The Kirk family’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life, the importance of family, and the enduring power of love and faith in the face of loss. For Erika, the hope of another child is not only a personal blessing, but a symbol of resilience and the promise of new beginnings.
