Patrick Mahomes is officially back to reality. After soaking up the sun with his wife Brittanyand their three young kids during a beachside getaway in Mexico, the Chiefs quarterback was seen Tuesday hustling across the tarmac with toddlers in tow and bags slung over both shoulders. Brittany followed closely behind, carrying what looked like a bundle of blankets – possibly baby Golden, the couple’s six-month-old daughter.

The Mahomeses had been enjoying a final stretch of offseason bliss – part yacht party, part family bonding – before the grind of NFL preseason begins. Training camp for the Kansas City Chiefs opens July 22, and Mahomes will report alongside stars like Travis Kelce as the team starts its 2025 campaign with eyes on redemption.

As the Mahomes family was wrapping up their trip, Kansas City made a headline of its own. The Chiefs signed offensive guard Trey Smith to a four-year, $94 million extension – a deal that, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, includes $70 million guaranteed and sets a new benchmark for guards across the league.

With that signing, and Creed Humphrey’s $72 million deal from last August still fresh, Mahomes now stands behind the most expensive – and arguably most dominant – interior offensive line in the NFL. It’s a clear message from the front office: protect the franchise at all costs.

Back on the tarmac, the family looked like any other group of parents wrangling kids and luggage. Sterling, 3, trailed close behind her dad, while Bronze, 2, wobbled along energetically. It was a glimpse into the offseason rhythm that Mahomes rarely gets during the NFL calendar – quiet moments with his growing family before football reclaims the schedule.

Now, it’s full steam ahead for Mahomes, who’s still shaking off February’s Super Bowl loss to the Eagles. The vacation may be over, but the mission has already begun.
