Report: Larry Summers Traveled to Epstein’s Private Island in 2005 Alongside Ghislaine Maxwell

NEW YORK, NY — The shadowy legacy of Jeffrey Epstein continues to cast a long and unsettling pall over some of America’s most powerful figures. Newly released flight records and government emails have revealed that economist Larry Summers, former Treasury Secretary under Bill Clinton and President of Harvard University, flew on Epstein’s notorious private jet—dubbed the “Lolita Express”—at least four times, including a trip to the financier’s infamous “pedophile island” in 2005.

Summers’ Connection to Epstein

Summers, now 70, maintained a friendly relationship with Epstein for years, according to hundreds of emails released by the House Oversight Committee. Their correspondence, which continued until just months before Epstein’s arrest and death in 2019, ranged from discussions about women and politics to the inner workings of Harvard.

Flight logs show Summers flew on Epstein’s jet several times during his Harvard presidency (2001–2006), notably:
– December 21, 2005: Summers flew to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, in the US Virgin Islands—a stone’s throw from Epstein’s private Little St. James island.
– April 15, 2004: Summers traveled from New York to Bedford, Massachusetts, alongside Epstein and Sarah Kellen, later accused of being a knowing participant in Epstein’s trafficking ring.
– September 14, 2005: Summers, Epstein, and Kellen flew from Bedford to New York.
– September 1998: Summers’ first logged trip on the jet was from Aspen, Colorado, to Washington, D.C.—just before he became Deputy Treasury Secretary.

Notably, on the 2005 flight to the Virgin Islands, the manifest included “Lisa Summers,” believed to be Summers’ now-wife Elisa, and Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s confidante who is now serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in his sex trafficking operation.

Harvard, Epstein, and the Academic Elite

Epstein’s ties to Harvard were well known; he donated over $9 million to the university and its programs between 1998 and 2008 and was appointed a “visiting fellow” to “conduct research.” However, Harvard ultimately concluded that Epstein “lacked the academic qualifications visiting fellows typically possess.”

A 2020 Harvard report acknowledged that several faculty members—including Summers—visited Epstein at his various homes, traveled on his planes, or met with him in jail. The report noted these activities were undertaken in personal capacities, not as official representatives of Harvard, and found no violations of university policy.

The Emails: A Friendly Relationship Endures

The newly released emails between Summers and Epstein, exchanged from 2013 to 2019, show a continued relationship even after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor. Their conversations, often about women and professional networking, suggest a level of comfort and familiarity that persisted despite Epstein’s growing notoriety.

In one 2019 email, Summers described a personal encounter with a woman, joking about being “the friend without benefits” and discussing professional connections. The last known email exchange occurred in March 2019, just months before Epstein’s final arrest.

No Evidence of Wrongdoing—But Questions Remain

There is no public record of what events were planned at Little St. James during Summers’ visit, and there is no suggestion or evidence of criminal conduct by Summers. A spokesperson for Summers declined to comment on the revelations.

Still, the association between Summers and Epstein—and the presence of figures like Ghislaine Maxwell on the same flights—raises uncomfortable questions about the circles Epstein cultivated among the world’s academic and financial elite.

Broader Fallout: Trump Orders Investigation

In the wake of these disclosures, President Donald Trump has directed US Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Epstein’s ties to prominent Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton, and financial institutions. The move signals continued political and legal interest in unraveling the full extent of Epstein’s influence.

The release of flight logs and emails adds new layers to the complex web surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, his crimes, and his connections. For Larry Summers, the records underscore the risks and reputational costs of proximity to power—and to scandal.

As more documents come to light, the public is left to reckon with uncomfortable truths about the intersection of privilege, academia, and accountability. The story of Epstein and his associates is far from over; it remains a cautionary tale for those who move in the highest circles.
