Shaq wouldn’t mind LeBron James having a statue in Los Angeles
Los Angeles Lakers and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal says he wouldn’t oppose LeBron James having a statue in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Lakers legend and four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal commented on whether his former teammate and future Hall of Famer, LeBron James, should have a statue built in Los Angeles.
O’Neal revealed that he wouldn’t mind seeing LeBron’s statue outside the Crypto.com Arena, believing that LeBron has done enough to deserve such an honor.
“LeBron broke the record, and he did it as a Laker. Would I oppose him having a statue in Los Angeles? No, I wouldn’t. If they want to give him a statue, I’d be fine with that,” Shaq said in an interview with NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.
Shaq also weighed in on LeBron’s championship win with the Lakers in the 2020 NBA Bubble during the pandemic. He stated that critics who dismiss this title should also disregard Tim Duncan’s 1999 championship with the San Antonio Spurs, which was won during a lockout-shortened season.
“He won a championship with the Lakers, and a lot of people try to discredit it. If that one doesn’t count, then you can’t count Mr. Duncan’s lockout-year championship either,” Shaq argued.
“That’s right. I said it! If we’re counting Tim Duncan’s lockout-year championship, then you have to count LeBron’s too.”
This is LeBron James’ seventh season with the Lakers. During those seven years, he has been selected to seven All-Star games, won the 2020 NBA championship, and earned Finals MVP honors.
