Shaquille O’Neal Hilariously Gets Water Thrown in His Face in First Appearance on AEW

Shaquille O’Neal may have found himself in a new rivalry.

The retired NBA legend appeared on Wednesday night’s episode of All Elite Wrestling’s Dynamite, where he was interviewed alongside wrestler Brandi Rhodes. Rhodes — who is also AEW’s chief brand officer — had her arm in a sling after she was attacked (in storyline) by Jade Cargill a few weeks ago.

O’Neal told Rhodes that while he is close to Cargill and wants to see her progress in the business, he didn’t like how far she went in injuring Rhodes’ arm. The conversation seemed to be going smoothly — the two even shook hands after O’Neal said he wants to be at Rhodes’ match against Cargill — until the athlete told Rhodes she could get some pointers from her opponent while her arm heals.

“That’s a joke right?” Rhodes asked O’Neal.

“No, I’m serious,” O’Neal said back.

That’s when Rhodes grabbed interviewer Tony Schiavone’s glass of water and threw it in O’Neal’s face.

“You are an overgrown a—hole!” Rhodes yelled at O’Neal, who blankly stared into the camera while soaking wet.

The hilarious moment went viral on social media, with people saying it would become O’Neal’s “new meme.”

“2020 is too wild,” one Twitter user said.

Of course, this isn’t O’Neal’s first go-around in the world of professional wrestling.

He’s made appearances for WCW, Impact and WWE over the years. An older clip even shows O’Neal conducting a promo with Hulk Hogan back in 1994.

But one of his most memorable moments came in 2016 when he appeared at the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32. It was there that he stared down the Big Show and gave a chokeslam to Kane.

It’s safe to say that with his comments to Rhodes, O’Neal may have found himself in a new feud — Rhodes’ husband is Cody Rhodes, AEW’s executive vice president. It has all the signs of a tag-team match in the making.
