Stephen Curry explains post-retirement NBA plans, he wants to follow in Michael Jordan’s footsteps
Stephen Curry is 37 years old and will likely retire from the NBA in the coming years. He is already making plans for what comes next.
The Golden State Warriors are a franchise built on the back of Stephen Curry. He has been the main man on the team as they have won four NBA championships.
However, the 37-year-old is close to the end of his career. Despite the addition of Jimmy Butler this season, it’s hard to say how much success Curry and the Warriors have left in them.
Recently, Steve Kerr pointed out the similarities between Steph and Michael Jordan. And it seems the greatest shooter ever wants to emulate MJ after he’s done playing as well.

Steph Curry wants to own an NBA team like Michael Jordan did
Jordan may have been the GOAT player, but he also has the title of one of the worst team owners. Not that Mike would care too much, he made over $2.7 billion after selling the team in 2023.
And it seems Steph wants to be ‘like Mike’ after he retires.
“He might be the only one in our generation who has sat in that seat and done it that way,” Curry told CNBC.
“The idea of being a part of an ownership group and the right opportunity that allows me to have an impact on how a franchise should be operated, how you’re going after true winning, like we’ve done here with the Warriors, that’s something I’m excited about pursuing.
“It’s interesting. Obviously, as an active player, you can’t participate in that level until you’re done. So you’ll see me in the seat somewhere down the road. But, obviously, there are levels to this.”
Stephen Curry can’t buy an NBA team by himself
The Warriors’ superstar is one of the highest-paid athletes on the planet. As per Forbes, Curry will make an estimated $156 million in 2025 in salary and endorsements.
However, he doesn’t have a massive net worth yet. Steph is reportedly worth roughly $250 million, which isn’t much compared to billionaires like LeBron James and MJ.
Considering that the average NBA team is worth nearly $4.5 billion in 2025, it’s hard to imagine the 2-time MVP becoming a majority owner.
Curry will likely need to arrange the financing and then be the frontman for an ownership group if he wishes to own an NBA franchise in the future.
