Travis Kelce Shuts Down Reporter After Uncomfortable Question Before Super Bowl LIX - Athlon Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles gathered on Monday for opening night ahead of the Super Bowl, with players and coaches answering questions from the media and engaging with over 30,000 fans in New Orleans.

However, with such large events come some odd—and sometimes disrespectful—questions. One such moment occurred during Travis Kelce’s time at the podium.

A reporter asked the star tight end whether he loved Taylor Swift or “phantom” 15-yard roughing the passer penalties more, implying that referees often throw flags for non-existent infractions, essentially suggesting that the Chiefs receive favorable officiating.

While Kelce reacted in a professional manner, he instantly shut down the question and moved on without answering.

“Travis, what do you love more? Taylor Swift or phantom 15-yard roughing the passer penalties in the playoffs?” The reporter asked.

Kelce paused for a moment, then responded, “That’s a good question. Anybody else?”

A growing theme has been the backlash the Chiefs face whenever they get a penalty call from the referees. While some of these calls come at critical moments and have been questionable at times, every team faces similar situations.

The key difference is that Kansas City has consistently capitalized on those opportunities, finding ways to win games year after year and establishing themselves as a modern-day dynasty.

The Chiefs are chasing their fourth championship in six seasons and aiming for a third consecutive title. If they succeed, they would become the first team in NFL history to accomplish that feat—and the first American professional sports team to do so since the early 2000s.
