The ’60s and ’70s truly had a love of science fiction and tried to come up with an idea of what the enigmatic future may hold. Now in 2024, we don’t have flying cars or a lot of the fun stuff they came up with back then, but that’s okay! We have shows like The Six Million Dollar Man, which followed Lee Majors as astronaut Colonel Steve Austin. After suffering an accident in a space vehicle, the government put him back together as a bionic man and he carried out missions set forth by the OSI. After decades of promises of a reboot of The Six Million Dollar Man, actor Mark Wahlberg provided an update.
He said in a recent interview, “You know what, I think there is finally hope for that to happen. And I think it’s kind of actually a lot to do with this movie, because hopefully Skydance will have the rights, if not fully buttoned up now, very soon, and we’ll fast track that movie to get made. So, I’m still not out of the fight, I’m still grinding every day to get it made. You know, its tough to get certain things made it’s very difficult, it was an uphill battle, but I think certain ones are worth just seeing through to the end.”
The original show was inspired by a novel called “Cyborg” by Martin Caidin. First, the novel was recreated into three TV movies and eventually the weekly series which ran from 1974 to 1978. The show also starred Lindsay Wagner as Jaime Sommers and she got her own spin-off show called The Bionic Woman. Let’s find out what Majors and Wagner are up to now.

Lindsay Wagner began in The Six Million Dollar Man as Majors’ character’s love interest but eventually her character got some bionics of her own and a spin-off. While her character actually died in The Six Million Dollar Man, she proved to be so popular that they figured out a way to bring her back with her own show. After the shows ended, she has mostly made TV movies including the three Bionic reunions.
