From Neglect to Love: The Incredible Transformation of Sang Su the Rescue Dog

Sang Su, a small dog once found wandering the streets, had clearly experienced a long period of neglect. His coat was so matted and overgrown that it was difficult to even identify his breed.

Recognizing Sang Su needed more care than they could provide, a local shelter contacted the Trio Animal Foundation for assistance.

Specializing in rescuing severely neglected animals, the Foundation was still taken aback by Sang Su’s poor condition.

Sue Naiden, who leads the Foundation, described his fur as being tightly wound around his body, creating an unbearable odor due to urine-soaked fur. Despite the challenges, the rescuers were determined to help the dog get back on his feet.

Sang Su was brought in for an urgent procedure to free him from his heavy coat. It took four members of the medical team two hours to remove approximately three pounds of matted fur.

The transformation was nothing short of remarkable, revealing a rejuvenated Sang Su.

Naiden initially assumed Sang Su was a mix of Shih Tzu, poodle, or Lhasa Apso, but once his true appearance was unveiled, she was surprised about his actual breed.

“In my 20 years of rescue work, I’ve never been so wrong about a dog’s breed beneath such thick mats,” she admitted.

After the procedure, Sang Su could finally see his surroundings and move comfortably, extending his legs and running freely. The most significant change, however, was the newfound affection he craved.

Although still a bit wary, he longed for human touch and companionship. “His legs tremble, but all he wants is to be close and feel a gentle stroke,” Naiden explained, highlighting how this affection is vital for his recovery and trust-building.

While Sang Su has shown remarkable progress, he still has ear infections that need ongoing treatment and is undergoing therapy to improve his social interactions with other dogs.

His transformation is inspiring, and there’s hope that the best is yet to come for Sang Su.

When ready, Sang Su will be up for adoption through the Trio Animal Foundation.

The Foundation continues to seek support to cover the costs of his recovery, but Naiden emphasizes that seeing the profound impact of love and care on small dogs like Sang Su makes every effort worthwhile.

“His transformation is nothing short of astounding,” she said, reflecting on his journey.
