2024 has been the year of Simone Biles. As comes with the territory of it being an Olympic Games year, there was always going to be one standout who made the summer theirs. Many expected it to be Biles, and it was. The cream of the crop in gymnastics, Biles won four total medals, three of which were gold.

All throughout the competition, Biles was flat-out dominant. It’s the nature of her competitiveness and elite talent. Considered by many to be the greatest gymnast of all-time, Biles’ legacy was cemented in Paris at just 27 years old. But it wasn’t always as glamorous as she made it seem on TV.

Simone Biles calls for new beds at LA 2028

Biles recently spoke to Us Weekly for an interview and was asked what changes she would make for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. There’s one specific thing that she’s adamant needs changing.

The lows? Like okay, cardboard bed. We’re elite athletes trying to compete on the biggest stage of our life, and they’re like, ‘hey, try doing it after you sleep on this cardboard bed’… We’re the best athletes in the world, for just one or two weeks, we deserve the best of the best. We shouldn’t be stressing about sleeping on a cardboard bed.

It’s a very fair complaint, and one that has been made by just about every Olympic athlete. Sure, they’re technically on an even playing field since they’re all sleeping on the same type of bed, but it’s still shocking that it hasn’t been addressed by the Olympic committee.

It’s obviously a cost-cutting measure, but enough outrage from high-profile Olympians should lead to changes being made for LA 2028.
