I still struggle sometimes. I still have days when the depression weighs heavy, when the regrets feel overwhelming, when I wonder what my life would have been if I’d made different choices. But on those days, I remember the Bigfoot sitting with me while I cried, choosing gentleness over aggression, showing me the beauty of the forest even though it had no obligation to care about a crying human. I remember that moment of connection, that recognition of shared suffering, that act of kindness from something wild and powerful and free.

And I remember that if a creature like that could choose compassion, then so can I. If the Bigfoot could stop in the middle of a fight to comfort a stranger, then surely I can extend that same kindness to myself and others. If it could show me that there’s magic and wonder in simple moments, then I can keep looking for that magic every day, even when it’s hard, even when I’m tired, even when the world feels too heavy to bear.

The encounter lasted maybe three or four hours. But it changed the trajectory of my entire life. That’s the power of genuine connection, of being truly seen by another being in a moment when you most need it.

It doesn’t matter that the other being was a creature that supposedly doesn’t exist. It doesn’t matter that I can’t prove it happened. I’ll probably never have those answers. The Bigfoot is gone, back to whatever hidden life it leads in the depths of the forest. But it left me with gifts that continue to unfold. Every time I notice beauty I would have missed before. Every time I choose presence over productivity. Every time I extend compassion to myself or others, I’m honoring what the Bigfoot taught me. I’m living the lessons it showed me in that enchanted afternoon when impossible things happened and everything changed.

So this is my story. A story about being lost and found. About hitting bottom and discovering there was something below the bottom waiting to catch me. A story about a creature that shouldn’t exist, teaching a broken human how to live again. A story about the magic that happens when we open ourselves to the impossible. When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable enough to accept help from the most unexpected source.

Believe it or don’t believe it, think I’m crazy or think I’m telling the truth. It doesn’t matter to me anymore. I know what happened. I know what I saw and felt and learned. I know that somewhere in those deep woods, there lives a creature of enormous power and surprising gentleness. A creature that saw my suffering and chose to ease it. A creature that gave me back my life when I’d all but given up on it.

And I know that because of that encounter, I’m still here, still trying, still learning to see the world with wonder and appreciation, still working to become the person I should have been all along.

The Bigfoot didn’t fix me, but it showed me how to fix myself. It gave me tools and perspectives I didn’t have before. It taught me that healing is possible, that change is possible, that even when everything feels impossible, sometimes impossible things happen.
