‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Why Tracy And Jason Grieving Monica’s Death Together Was EVERYTHING-Bravo To Jane Elliot And Steve Burton’s Powerful Performances
‘General Hospital’ spoilers confirm that Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) grieved Monica Quartermaine’s (Leslie Charleson) death together last week.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Burton And Elliot Were Breathtaking
The soap finally addressed the late actress Leslie Charleson’s death by having her character, Monica, pass away peacefully at the mansion.
Charleson died on January 12th this year at the age of 79 after a long period of illness. Monica was the Quartermaine matriarch and beloved by generations of soap fans.
Tracy and Jason’s portrayers, Jane Elliot and Steve Burton, both delivered master class performances. Elliot proved why she’s a legend in the daytime industry.
Burton also demonstrated the depth of his acting talent, reminding fans why he’s so beloved. The scenes in which Jason and Tracy mourned Monica were a tour de force, and all of it was very real.
Jason had gone upstairs to tell Monica that Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) had been shot and discovered that Monica was gone.
Jason had the unenviable task of going back downstairs and informing Tracy that Monica had passed. Elliot beautifully exhibited Tracy’s reaction. It was a mix of shock and disbelief, followed by reluctant acceptance.
Burton displayed the right balance of quiet strength and sorrow while delivering the tragic news to Tracy. The pair played the scenes together wonderfully.
Yet, we all knew they weren’t acting. The tears were real, as well as the discussion of her legacy. As they sat on the couch, viewers were reminded that the upcoming tribute wasn’t only about Monica, but also about Charleson.
The soap wisely chose to have Jason and Tracy deal with the loss of Monica together as they dealt with the initial blow. Both have rich and complex histories with the Quartermaine matriarch.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Burton And Elliot’s True Grief Was Evident
The typically stoic and stable Jason cried the tears of a son who had just lost his beloved mother. The only other time we ever really saw such raw emotion from him was when Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) died.
It was our turn to tear up when Tracy told Jason the story of the first time Monica considered Jason her own child.
Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) had an affair with Susan Moore, which produced a baby. For some time, Monica resented little Jason, despite knowing it wasn’t the child’s fault for her husband’s indiscretions.
Yet, one night, Jason fell ill, and Monica took him to the gatehouse to care for him. It was the first time Monica referred to Jason as her son.
We watched Jason sit in the gatehouse and mourn his mother, and his grief was palpable. Jason was overcome with grief, and it was written all over his face.
Tracy thought of all the times she and Monica had fought in the past and realized how much she truly admired the woman she once claimed she couldn’t stand.
Monica’s death made Jason feel filled with regret. He regretted the time he first lost his memory and turned his back on his family, including Monica.
Burton and Elliot played every beat with nuance and precision, while demonstrating real-life grief. GH gave us a preview of what’s to come as they say goodbye to an iconic character and one of their own.
