Goldie Hawn Fights Tears Recalling Moment She Heard Diane Keaton Died
Goldie Hawn and Sarah Paulson Pay Tearful, Heartfelt Tributes to Diane Keaton
Hollywood is mourning the loss of the beloved and iconic actress Diane Keaton. At The Hollywood Reporterâs Women in Entertainment Gala on December 3rd, the event honored Keaton with a video montage of her life and career, followed by moving tributes from two of her closest friends and co-stars, Goldie Hawn and Sarah Paulson.

Goldie Hawn Recalls the Moment She Heard the News
Taking the stage to honor her longtime friend and First Wives Club co-star, 80-year-old Goldie Hawn was immediately overcome with emotion. Hawn revealed that she and Keaton were not only friends but close neighbors, and Keaton was âalways on my mind.â
Hawn recalled the specific, painful moment she learned of Keatonâs passing:
âAnd when it came time when she passed and I happened to learn when I was in my backyard and I went over to my backyard to my rose garden and I just looked down at her house [and] said, âShe canât be gone. She just cannot be gone. No one like that should ever die. She just brought so much joy, so much life, so much exuberance. She was like lightning in a bottle.â
Hawn emphasized Keatonâs extraordinary nature, stating, âThere wasnât anything that she couldnât do. There wasnât any world that she couldnât live in. There was just she was just an extraordinary human being.â
She fondly remembered working with Keaton on First Wives Club, describing her as âvery tenacious and an incredibly hard worker.â Hawn also humorously referenced Keatonâs signature style, joking that the Annie Hall starâs skirts were âso wide she couldnât get through the door.â

Goldie concluded her tribute with a poetic description of her late friend:
âSheâs like a lightning bug, like a little lightning bug that would light up over here and you go try to catch her and then sheâd light up over there⌠But you didnât catch Diane. She was on a journey. She never looked back and she is a pure, pure, whatever you want to call it, you call it stars, whatever. But I think that she is a star. And if we can have a fantasy, which I do, is that stars are really people who died a long time ago that did something really good for the world. I think maybe thatâs where she is right now.â
Sarah Paulsonâs Hilarious and Heartfelt Farewell
Actress Sarah Paulson followed Hawn, sharing equally emotional and often hilarious memories of Diane Keaton, whom she declared was âone of the great loves of my life.â Paulson recounted striking up a friendship with Keaton while shooting The Other Sister.

To the audienceâs delight, the American Horror Story star shared some of the candid and amusing messages she had received from Keaton over the years:
âwhat is your address?â
âTruly, truly. I want to see you and your house, idiot.â
âWhen date die,â
âSarah, I hate your phone. It is always full and I can never leave a message.â
âMore on, what is your address?â
Through tears, Paulson concluded her remarks by reading a poignant email she wishes she could send to her beloved friend:
âDear Dum Dum, I want to tell you Iâm sorry my voicemail was always full. I want to tell you Iâm sorry I wasnât available every time you called me. I want to tell you how much crummier the world is without you in it⌠And I want to tell you I will miss you forever. But most of all, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being my friend.â
