Soap Vet and Live Co-Host Mark Consuelos Set to Guest Star on 9-1-1- Who Will He Play?

When 9-1-1 returns with its ninth season, one of the early guest stars of the season is someone from the ABC family. Mark Consuelos, who co-hosts alongside his wife, Kelly Ripa, on Live with Kelly and Mark, will tap into his acting side once again. And it will be for a doozy of an episode.

A Whale of a Time

Thankfully, the All My Children alum is used to playing wild stories in daytime and primetime. After all, he did star on the CW’s Riverdale, which was wild times a thousand. Consuelos’s guest star stint involves him playing an eccentric billionaire businessman— think Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos. 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear hinted at the larger-than-life storyline responsible for bringing the talk show host to primetime.

The billionaire experiences a bizarre situation when he’s “swallowed by a whale,” Minear revealed to EW. “And a much larger adventure will ensue from that.” It’s actually a plot — believe it or not — inspired by real events. “Just google ‘kayaker gets swallowed by whale. You’ll find it,” the executive producer explained.

There is no word yet on when the actor’s episode will air. Until then, however, Consuelos and Ripa and their show, LIVE with Kelly and Mark, are up for Daytime Emmys in two categories: Outstanding Daytime Talk Series and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series hosts. The Daytime Emmys will take place on October 17. The husband-and-wife team won the outstanding host category last year.

9-1-1 Context

Looming large for 911 fans is the fact that the show’s ninth season will be the first one without Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause). Towards the end of the show’s eighth season, the pivotal character gets killed off in a contagion-type storyline. Nash was married to Angela Bassett’s fan-favorite cop, Athena Grant.

When the show returns for season nine, Athena, the first responders at Bobby’s fire station, plus his other family and friends, will still be feeling the effects of his tragic death.

9-1-1 premieres on Thursday, October 9, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
