Angel Reese recently made headlines with a bold ultimatum to the WNBA. On her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” she threatened to sit out unless she received a significant pay raise, demanding superstar treatment. However, shortly after making these bold claims, she took the court, only to deliver one of the most disappointing performances of her career, leaving fans bewildered and amused.
Reese’s Demand for Higher Pay
In a recent episode of her podcast, Reese, alongside her partner in conversation, D. Carrington, claimed that if the WNBA didn’t meet her financial demands, she would consider boycotting. Reese, still early in her career, has yet to establish herself as a dominant force in the league, but she believes she has the leverage to shake the WNBA to its core. Her comments echoed a desire for better pay, with Reese revealing that her current rookie contract—worth about $73,000 per year—barely covers her basic expenses. She even went so far as to share that her monthly rent of $8,000 exceeded her entire annual salary, making her claim about financial struggles hard to ignore.
However, while demanding a pay raise, Reese’s on-court performance following her podcast episode did not align with her assertions. In the very next game, she went a disappointing 5 for 13 in field goals, with one of her shots even smacking the bottom of the backboard. Her missed layups and inconsistent shooting only added fuel to the fire, turning what was supposed to be a statement game into a viral blooper reel. Reese’s timing couldn’t have been worse; just days after threatening to sit out unless her demands were met, she delivered a performance that could only be described as a bricklaying spectacle.
The Contrast with Caitlin Clark
While Reese was busy delivering missed shots, Caitlin Clark, another rising star in women’s basketball, was doing exactly what Reese had failed to do—performing on the court. Clark has become the face of women’s basketball, consistently breaking records, filling arenas, and proving her value as a player. Meanwhile, Reese’s performance lacked the same star power, which is concerning given her claims that she is an essential part of the WNBA’s future. While Reese focused on salary negotiations, Clark focused on her game and her role in elevating the WNBA to new heights.
The Reality Check
Reese’s contract negotiation demands are not unique. Every player, from rookies to veterans, signs contracts that are tied to the league’s salary structure, which doesn’t change simply because a player wants more money. Future rookies, like USC’s Ju Ju Watkins, may end up making more money, but that’s just how professional sports contracts work. It’s not an injustice—it’s a result of signing a rookie deal.
Yet, Reese continues to argue that the league is undervaluing her, even while her own performance falls short of the superstar level she demands to be treated as. A look at the numbers tells a different story. Reese’s games are struggling to draw the same attention as Clark’s, with lower viewership and fewer tickets sold. Despite her social media following and podcast engagement, Reese’s actual impact on the league’s popularity is questionable.
The True Force Behind Women’s Basketball’s Growth
Caitlin Clark has become the driving force behind women’s basketball’s rise in popularity. The numbers prove this—Clark’s games attract higher viewership, sell out arenas, and consistently break attendance records. In contrast, games featuring Reese don’t draw the same crowds or ratings. This stark contrast between the two players reveals a fundamental truth: success in professional sports is not about demanding more—it’s about proving your worth through consistent performance.
While Reese continues to complain about her salary, Clark is silently letting her game speak for itself. Clark doesn’t need to issue ultimatums or demand special treatment; she lets her results and contributions to the team’s success do the talking. This difference in attitudes is what sets these two players apart. One is focused on her potential and what she believes she deserves, while the other is focused on improving her skills and proving her value through hard work and dedication.
The WNBA’s Future
The future of women’s basketball lies in players like Caitlin Clark who understand that their value is built on their talent, not their ability to make demands. While Reese may believe her influence in the league is undeniable, the facts speak for themselves—Clark is the true star. If Reese doesn’t start focusing on improving her game rather than negotiating her pay, she risks being left behind as the WNBA continues to grow, powered by players who let their performances do the talking.
In the end, Angel Reese’s claims for higher pay have been overshadowed by her underwhelming performance, leaving fans to question whether she truly deserves the treatment she’s demanding. Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark’s on-court dominance continues to set the standard for what it means to be a true superstar in the WNBA.
Michael Jordan didn’t hesitate when naming the one sportsman who left him starstruck when they first met
It takes a lot to leave Jordan starstruck, but there was one meeting that he admitted was a real privilege.
It would take a lot to leave NBA legend Michael Jordan starstruck, but he has admitted that meeting one sporting star was an absolute privilege.
Having played in an era when the NBA hosted all-time greats such as Kobe Bryant, Shaquelle O’Neal and Larry Bird, it’s safe to say Jordan has met his fair share of sporting legends.
With an impressive six NBA championships and several personal accomplishments throughout his 15 season career, Jordan himself is widely considered to be one of the greatest athletes of all time.
However, neither of these things stopped him from being completely starstruck when meeting one sports icon for the first time.
While many would consider Jordan to be the greatest NBA player ever, some would argue that Wilt Chamberlain still holds that title.
Chamberlain remains the only player to ever score 100 points in an NBA game, doing so during a historic match for the Philadelphia Warriors in March 2 1962 as his side recorded a 169–147 win over the New York Knicks.
According to the NBA’s official website, ‘The Big Dipper’ was basketball’s unstoppable force and ‘the most awesome offensive force the game has ever seen,’ and therefore it comes as no surprise that Jordan idolised him.
And when the two men finally met each other, Jordan admitted that he was left in awe.
“I got the chance to meet Wilt Chamberlain for the first time, which I thought was a privilege for me being that I finished second to him in a lot of individual stats and career stats and scoring stats,” Jordan said via MDBBall.
“He was very nice to visit. He came up to me and congratulated me on my career.”

He added: “I’m a basketball enthusiast, and I honour and respect the people that gave me the opportunity to excel at this game, to make a living at this game. To see a lot of those guys, it was a privilege for me.”
Chamberlain was the only NBA player to score 4,000 points in a season and set NBA single-game records for most points (100), most consecutive field goals (18) and most rebounds (55).
He retired as the all-time leader in career points with 31,419, which was later surpassed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Dirk Nowitzki.
Tragically, the NBA legend passed away on October 12, 1999, at age 63 due to congestive heart failure.
