KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs were met with what is becoming a familiar reaction while taking the field in New Orleans for warm-ups today.

As Kansas City ran onto the field, Philadelphia Eagles fans seemed to drown out Chiefs Kingdom as mostly boos could be heard from the Superdome. While the Kingdom is sure to make its presence felt come game time, Eagles fans are known as one of the more intense fan bases in their own right.

Boos haven’t hurt the Chiefs in the past, they were booed taking the field at past Super Bowls, at last year’s opening ceremony and countless other games and events. That also includes a 2024 NBA game where Travis Kelce was booed after being shown on the jumbotron.

Mahomes has since been asked about and has spoken on the “villain” role he’s taken on in the NFL, which seems to follow any great athlete who enjoys extended success.

“I don’t want to say you enjoy it. I know the Patriots had that for a while. I’m hoping we do it in a different way with a little bit more fun and personality with it. But as long as you keep winning, teams start to not like you, and I want to keep winning,” Mahomes said about the Chiefs’ success before Super Bowl LVIII.

“So if that means some of the other teams and other fan bases aren’t going to like me, I’ll try to still have a smile on my face and not be a bad example, but I can be that villain for them if they need me to be.”

He’s not the only Chiefs player taking on the role, either, Chris Jones claims to actually enjoy the title.

“I like being the villain. It feels good being the villain,” Chiefs DT Chris Jones said after winning last year’s AFC Championship against the Ravens.
