Patrick Mahomes Addresses Travis Kelce’s Retirement Comments

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterback-tight end duos in NFL history.

Their individual accolades speak for themselves, but together, they have been crucial to the Kansas City Chiefs’ run to seven straight AFC Championship Games. Now, Mahomes and Kelce are set to make their fifth Super Bowl appearance in six years with three titles already to their names.

On Monday, Kelce spoke to the media about where he’ll be in three years, suggesting that retirement is not imminent.

“Where will I be in three years? Hopefully still playing football,” Kelce said, per an X post by Matt Foster of KSHB 41 News. “I love doing this. I love coming into work every day. I feel like I still got a lot of good football left in me. We’ll see what happens. I know I’ve been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life. That’s always been the goal, knowing that football only lasts for so long. You’ve got to find a way to get into another career, another profession. I’ve been doing that in my offseasons. But for the most part, I plan on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”

On Wednesday, Kelce’s partner in crime, Mahomes, addressed his answer after being asked about it in the media.

“Hopefully he does play another three years because that’s good for me,” Mahomes answered, per an X post by Tucker D. Franklin of KC Sports Network.

There’s no doubt that having the 35-year-old Kelce back with the Chiefs would be a big boost for Mahomes. Out of Mahomes’ 32,352 passing yards and 245 touchdowns in his eight-year NFL career, Kelce has caught 8,126 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns of that total, per StatMuse.

Both stars have the chance to become a part of NFL history with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. No team has ever won three consecutive Super Bowl titles, but the Chiefs have the opportunity to do just that on Sunday.
