Growing up in a small town Troupe in East Texas, Randi Mahomes’ parents have had an immense influence on her. The bio section of her website outlines that saying, “A humble, tight-knit, town and her parents” made her the woman she is today. So, it was a moment of grief last year when Randi Mahomes lost her mother, Debbie Bates. Now, while her son Patrick Mahomes, is getting ready to lead the Chiefs to face the Falcons in a Sunday Night clash, one more challenging phase hits the family as Randi’s father Randy Martin is in hospital with a yet-to-be-revealed medical condition.

So taking to her Instagram, Randi posted a story with an ask to her followers: “This is how I fight my battles. If you are seeing this, take a moment, and PRAY for my dad now.” The accompanying snap shows a group of singers on a stage where a giant screen behind them features the line: “If only I knew back then what I know right now” from the song For My Good (Sped Up) by Maverick City Music. Mama Mahomes did not reveal much in her story as she already had done it a week ago.

On that occasion, she had posted on X, “Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well…🙏 His name is Randy.” As for the why—that’s still unclear. But it seems Randy has been fighting a prolonged battle, given that it’s been over a week since he has been hospitalized.

Between these two Instagram updates, Randi was seen attending her eldest son’s birthday just one day after Mahomes threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns in a 26-25 win and the second regular-season win against the Cincinnati Bengals at the Arrowhead Stadium on September 15. Randi posted a picture on Instagram alongside the Mahomes brothers, Brittany, and star QB’s half-sister Mia Randall. Even though she didn’t provide any health updates then, on Wednesday, she posted two cryptic message that hinted at the fact that her father is still not out of danger yet. She posted,

“I just wish I could somehow make it all make sense…but I just cant. #stillblessed,” she wrote in one post. That was quickly followed by a graphic X post, this time, quoting a Bible verse from Proverbs 3:5-6,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Randi, who is the grandmother to Patrick’s two children Sterling, 3, and Bronze, 2, with his wife Brittany, harbors close ties with her family as is evident from her occasional social media posts featuring her moments with the family. That not only includes Patrick’s family, but Randi’s other children Jackson Mahomes, 23, and Mia Randall, 13 as well. But equally prominent on her social media handles are her mom and dad.

In 2020, she shared a collage of photos of her father on the occasion of Father’s Day. Showing her love, she aptly captioned it, “Happy Father’s Day dad!! I love you.” Last year in August 2023, Randi had again posted a photo with her father on Instagram and joked, “Almost got daddy to smile!!! #family #myrock #mygirl #daddy #blessed.” Her latest post with Martin came during Easter,

The entire Mahomes family, including Randi’s children and grandchildren, was together with the veteran patriarch, making the moment special. A content Randi wrote, “Priceless time with my family ❤️God is so Great.” Randi also has a special place for her late mother in her heart.

Right before Christmas last year, Randi posted a photo with her mom and Mia and wrote, “Last year around time I was with my momma in KC, she loved it there and was the proudest ❤️ she was determined to get the Marriott tree Chiefs colors ❤️🎄memories are what i treasure.” One memory about her mother Randi surely remembers fondly is the elderly lady’s love for Patrick. Randi has focused that on her social media posts on several occasions.

Before the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl, Randi wrote on her Instagram, “Momma i know you are cheering today from Heaven. I miss you every single day.. i can hear you yelling ‘Go Patrick.’” She had once again brought in her mother’s memory earlier this year when the three-time Super Bowl MVP made it to the Time 100 list.

“Momma would be so proud & calling everybody in her contacts. I’m proud of you,” Randi had written on that occasion. As is evident from Randi’s posts, her close-knit family has its roots in her paternal place. And Randi practices that dearly. In June Randi retired from her job as an event planner to be a full-time grandmother.

She posted on June 27, “Tomorrow is my last day at the ‘Tree’ Hollytree. 19 1/2 years & TRULY on a roller coaster of emotions especially because Hollytree is my Family too. Could use prayers for this huge leap of faith. Focusing on my kids and being a ‘Grandi’ which i love more than anything.” Patrick Mahomes is already in his mother’s footsteps in keeping family as a priority. Do you know to what extent he has thought about that?

Patrick Mahomes is holding his Mom Randi’s values close to his heart

In June Randi appeared in an episode of ‘The Mom Game Podcast’. She had made a shocking revelation there about the retirement of the Grim Reaper, who is on a quest to a record-breaking 3-peat of Super Bowls. Randi said, “I hear him, you know, make comments like, If the game takes away from my kids, I might not play as long as Tom Brady, and I’m like, I’m so proud of him for that.” Indeed, Patrick himself has spoken along a similar line in the past.

Mahomes has three championships (LIV, LVII, and LVIII) over the last 7 years with Kansas City along with honors like the 2x league MVP (2018 and 2022) and the league’s Offensive Player of the Year award (2018). But, he is still far away from Brady’s seven Super Bowl rings, which the former New England Patriots QB won in his career spanning 23 years. But Mahomes has been laser-straight that his family comes before anything else.

“I’ve looked. If I played until Tom’s age, my daughter would be 19, 20 years old. That would mean missing plenty of youth sporting events and other commitments,” Mahomes, whom many project to become the ‘Greatest of All Time’ (GOAT), had explained. While he definitely wanted to chase that greatness, Mahomes had also added, “At the same time, I want to be there for my daughter. If I can do that, I’ll continue to play. But if I feel like it’s taking away from my family time, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to go.” Meanwhile, that family is going to be bigger.

Patrick is going to be a dad for a third time. He and his wife Brittany had announced a few months back that they were expecting a baby girl. And guess who was the most excited soul? Of course, the Grandma Mahomes! As Brittany posted photos from the gender reveal, an excited Randi had written, “I can’t wait!! I love y’all and miss yall.” As the Mahomes family prepares for the upcoming joy, we pray, may their maternal grandfather’s recovery add more to that.
