Ossai Ovie Expresses Disappointment in Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid for Lack of Investments in Nigeria
Ossai Ovie, a prominent Nigerian commentator, has voiced his disappointment in music superstars Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid for not investing in their home country, Nigeria, despite their billionaire status. Ovie’s remarks come in light of the notable investments made by fellow artist Akon in his native Senegal, which he believes should serve as an example for his contemporaries.

In a recent statement, Ovie highlighted Akon’s commitment to his homeland, saying, “Akon has investments in Senegal, but Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid don’t have investments in Nigeria.” He emphasized that these artists, who generate a significant portion of their wealth from the Nigerian market, should take cues from Akon’s approach to contributing to their own country’s economy.
Ovie pointed out that Senegal was not previously seen as a favorable location for investment until Akon began to invest heavily in the country. “Today, instead of them, particularly Davido, investing in Nigeria where he makes 90% of his money, he is busy driving investors away,” Ovie lamented.
Akon, who rose to fame in the United States through his music career, has since relocated to Senegal to aid in building the Senegalese economy and contributing to broader African development. He has established multi-billion dollar investments across the continent, including ventures like Wave Money, which has significantly impacted the financial landscape in the region.
Ovie’s comments reflect a growing concern among fans and commentators regarding the responsibilities of successful artists to give back to their communities. His disappointment underscores the expectation that prominent figures in the music industry should leverage their success to foster economic growth and development in their home countries.
As discussions around investment and responsibility continue, Ovie’s critique serves as a reminder of the potential influence that artists like Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid could wield if they chose to invest in Nigeria’s future.
