Steve Dangle podcast predicts Eastern Conference team could snatch Connor McDavid
Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid is set to re-sign a contract extension in 2025-26, but Eastern Conference teams are going to do everything in their power to make things difficult for GM Stan Bowman.
Steve Dangle Podcast (SDP) has sparked a furious conversation in Oil Country, stating a team like the New York Rangers could potentially swoop in with an irresistible offer to lure Connor McDavid away.
According to Ryan Hall of Oilers Daily, Wylde mentioned a team like the New York Rangers who is one of the largest markets in the NHL will be watching intently to see how the contract talks play out with Edmonton and prepare an offer to McDavid that would blow the doors off Rogers Place as the salary cap continues to rise and will surpass $100 million within the next two years.
Of course, as this is coming from a Maple Leafs driven podcast so it’s safe to say they have no idea what could happen with this negotiation as Leon Draisaitl showed that he was willing to commit eight years of his best years in hockey with the Oilers in the attempt to win the Stanley Cup.
-Ryan Hall
Being a Toronto based podcast, its no surprise that SDP would try to ruffle feathers in Oil Country.
As much as the idea of Connor McDavid being traded to another market makes me sick to my stomach, they do make some valid points.
“Soft tampering” has become a growing trend in today’s NHL, and it’s safe to assume teams will pull out all the stops to lure the Oilers captain away.
Additionally, the New York Rangers are one of the most valuable markets in the NHL, and i’m sure the idea of living in a destination city like New York City would be appealing.
With that being said, Connor McDavid isn’t going anywhere. I firmly believe he’s committed to retiring and winning with the Edmonton Oilers organization.
Leon Draisaitl recently signed a 8 year contract extension over the NHL offseason, and i fully expect Connor McDavid to follow suit.
