Stuart Skinner furious after being disregarded by referee
The Edmonton Oilers are coming off a disappointing 4-3 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings yesterday, but some controversy has been sparked regarding the game winning goal.
Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner was furious after the game winning goal after he tried to get the referee’s attention as his helmet wasn’t secured properly.
Skinner’s helmet was loose, but the referee failed to notice, which resulted in the puck finding the back of the net to seal the deal.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, After the game, Coach Knoblauch addressed the missed stoppage in play, and even pointed out that Kings goalie Darcy Kuemper was awarded that courtesy.
»We saw that in the third period, when we had some momentum and they blew down the whistle for (Kuemper). I don’t know, maybe Stuart didn’t get his attention. But it puts the goalie in a vulnerable position.
– Coach Knoblauch
Clearly Skinner was shaken up by the call and knocked off his game, because the game winning goal was a weak one on Skinner’s part. Sliding out of position, the Oilers goalie gave way too much open net to Byfield.
The game had a playoff style atmosphere as the Oilers and Kings went toe-to-toe all afternoon.
Despite the loss, the Oilers will take this as ammunition for the next time these two teams meet.
While the situation is definitely frustrating for fans, the Edmonton Oilers have the opportunity to bounce back against the Anaheim Ducks this afternoon.
The Oilers now boast with a 21-11-3 record and sit in a deadlock tie with LA for second place in the Pacific Division.
