Controversy Surrounds Ubi Franklin Over Allegations of Fraud

Ubi Franklin, a Nigerian music executive and artist manager, finds himself embroiled in a fraud scandal as accusations of financial misconduct surface. Franklin, best known for his association with Afrobeat superstar Davido and his wife, Chioma, faces allegations of misusing his influence to defraud individuals under false pretenses.

The Allegations

The primary accusation involves Franklin allegedly failing to refund ₦10 million (approximately $13,000) invested by an individual who claims he was promised lucrative returns. According to the accuser, Franklin used his connection with Chioma and Davido to establish credibility and attract investors. However, the accuser states that despite the agreed contract period ending, Franklin has not returned the money and has shown reluctance to settle the debt.

Evidence and Public Criticism

A series of voice recordings purportedly involving Franklin have been shared online. In these recordings, he is heard pleading for patience and promising to repay the money. Critics argue this reflects a pattern of manipulative behavior, leveraging his status to exploit others financially. Some claim Franklin has previously been involved in similar incidents, including allegedly collecting fees to secure music collaborations that never materialized.

Davido’s Connection

Although not directly implicated, Franklin’s association with Davido has drawn the musician’s name into the controversy. Some allege that Franklin has used his proximity to Davido and Chioma to legitimize his actions. However, reports indicate that Davido himself has had to step in to resolve past incidents caused by Franklin, paying out of pocket to settle disputes.

Public Backlash

The scandal has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many calling for accountability. Observers have pointed out Franklin’s previous high-profile ventures, such as his record label TripleMG, which once managed top artists like Tekno. They question how someone with such a track record could resort to such tactics.

The Bigger Picture

The incident highlights the broader challenges within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where trust and professionalism are critical yet often lacking. Franklin’s case serves as a cautionary tale for artists and entrepreneurs alike to thoroughly vet business partners, regardless of their affiliations.

What’s Next?

Franklin has until Monday, November 6, to resolve the matter, according to public statements from those involved. If he fails to act, legal action may follow, along with further public exposure of his alleged misconduct.
