In Defense of Humanity: Remembering Charlie Kirk and the Fight Against Censorship

The passing of Charlie Kirk has shaken many, not just for the profound personal loss, but for the chilling implications surrounding the tragedy. As my friend, a conservative advocate, organizer, and coalition builder, he represented a vital, courageous voice in the national conversation. Now, in the wake of his death, the terrifying forces he stood against are clearer than ever.

The Denial of Humanity and the ‘Hate Speech’ Lie

The most disturbing element in the current political climate—and one Charlie dedicated his life to fighting—is the effort to deny the fundamental humanity of those who disagree with the powerful.

Any attempt to silence a dissenting voice, or to restrict free expression, is a denial of humanity itself. As the transcript highlights, a free person, a human being with a soul, has a right to express their views. The push for so-called “hate speech” laws is the mechanism by which those in power seek to deny this right.

The Power Dynamic: “Hate speech, of course, is any speech that the people in power hate.” They don’t define it that way; they define it as “speech that hurts people,” or “speech that is tantamount to violence.” This logic allows them to punish dissent as if it were a physical crime.
Indoctrination: The transcript suggests that years of “indoctrination in our schools” have led a “huge and horrifying percentage of young people” to believe it’s acceptable to physically assault people they disagree with for “saying things they don’t like.” This is the logical endpoint of equating speech with violence.
A Dangerous Alliance: Efforts to take away free speech and “collude with organizations like the ADL” represent a dangerous alliance between government power and private censorship—a threat to the very foundation of American liberty. This must be the red line that is not crossed, because once they can silence you, “what can’t they do?”

The Courageous Convictions of Charlie Kirk

Charlie’s courage stemmed from a deep-seated Christian faith and a sincere commitment to his country and its youth.

Standing Against Perpetual War

Charlie’s views on foreign policy were constantly evolving and reflected the perspective of many young Americans. He believed the perpetual wars in the Middle East had been a net loss for the United States, causing “incalculable damage, not just economic and physical damage but spiritual damage.” He felt very strongly that the U.S. was being used to prosecute the wars of other nations, which he found “shameful and embarrassing.”

A Voice for the Youth: He was a rare individual willing to take the message of young people, who “are no young people in the country anymore supporting this,” directly to the President of the United States. Despite the massive unpopularity of his non-interventionist stance among conservative donors, he put the interests of his country and the future of its young people first.
His Integrity Tested: When I (Tucker) was hesitant to speak about controversial topics at a TPUSA event for fear of alienating his donors, Charlie simply looked at me and said, “Go all the way. Do it. Go all the way.” He put truth and courage ahead of a $100 million-a-year organization’s funding.

The Hypocrisy of His Accusers

In the wake of his death, the reaction of figures like Benjamin Netanyahu, who attempted to “hijack Charlie’s memory” and redirect the national grief for his own political project, was described as “ghoulish and really repulsive.”

A Model of Love, Not Hate: Charlie was falsely labeled an “anti-Semite” and “dangerous.” This is a profound lie. He “loved Jews,” had “tons of friends who were Jews,” and “loved the state of [Israel] and loved going there.” His issue was not with a people or a country, but with the destructive political maneuvers of specific leaders, such as Netanyahu, who he felt were using the United States for their own ends.
Persecuted by Donors: Following his principled stands and my speech at his event, Charlie took an almost unimaginable amount of private abuse and was tormented by a “small very intense group” of donors. Tragically, he lost a $2 million donation just two days before his passing, simply for having publicly pledged to host me at his next conference.

Charlie Kirk was a “great lover of people and a purveyor of peace.” He did not have hate in his heart. His worldview, rooted in his faith, was that even his enemies were “human beings who are doing bad things but are still created by God.” He was the opposite of what his accusers claimed, and his courage—to love people while telling them what he believed was true—was absolute.

Beyond the Noise: A Call for Transformation

In the face of such tragedy and overwhelming public hate, the only way forward is a fundamental shift in perspective.

We are living in a place of disorder and, in some sense, “hell,” where people on the internet—even teachers and yoga instructors—are “celebrating Charlie’s” death. While we need to restore order in our country, the deeper need is a supernatural transformation where people can “see each other as God sees them, you know, including their enemies, as human beings.”

This tragedy is a message to the rest of us. It is a stark reminder that we all face a daily choice: “Am I going to participate in the lie or not?”

A fund has been set up for Charlie’s wife, Erica, and their children. Please consider supporting his family in this difficult time.
