The Mad Woman asked me to remember what happened on the 13th of July when I was just 21 years of age.

In a small, quiet room, filled only with the heavy breath of a woman on the verge of a terrible confession, the truth was about to unfold. Amelia, a university graduate, had built her life around the idea of perfection. To her husband, David, she had been the epitome of honesty, a loving and faithful partner. But as she stood before him, trembling with guilt and remorse, everything she had ever claimed was about to be shattered.

It all began on an ordinary day, or so it seemed. But behind the walls of her mind, memories of a life lived in secrecy and betrayal had been locked away, waiting for the right moment to be revealed. Amelia had always been proud of her academic accomplishments, a serious student with a clear focus on her future. Yet, behind this facade, there was something much darker.

“Amelia, answer me!” David’s voice rang out in the dimly lit room, his desperation mounting. He grabbed her shoulders, his eyes searching hers for the truth. “Who did you shoot? What is this woman talking about?”

The question hung in the air, heavy with accusation and confusion. Amelia’s lips quivered as she looked at her husband, unsure whether to tell him the truth, but knowing that the time had come.

She hesitated for a moment before speaking in a shaky voice. “David, I was not always who you think I am. When I was in university, I was so focused on my studies, so determined to succeed. I wasn’t like the other girls. I didn’t smoke, I didn’t party… at least, that’s what I told myself.”

David’s eyes softened as he listened, but he didn’t know the storm that was brewing inside her.

“I tried to be different. I didn’t want to follow the crowd, but somewhere along the line, I changed. I fell into a relationship with a boy named Segun,” Amelia continued, her voice barely above a whisper. “He was rich, confident, and he had this… aura about him. I was drawn to him, and we began dating. Eventually, we had sex… and I lied to you, David. I wasn’t a virgin when we got married. I’m so sorry.”

David recoiled as if struck by a physical blow. His face turned pale, and his mouth fell open. “But you told me you were a virgin, Amelia. You swore to me that you were saving yourself for marriage!” he exclaimed, his voice shaking with disbelief.

Tears welled up in Amelia’s eyes. “I didn’t want to lose you. I thought if I told you the truth, you would leave me. So, I lied… and now, I regret it more than anything.”

But this was just the beginning of her confession. There was more. Amelia’s chest tightened as she recounted the night that had forever altered her life.

“It all started one evening at the mall,” she said, her voice trembling. “I saw Segun with another girl. I thought she was trying to steal him from me, and I became consumed with jealousy. I was angry, so angry that I couldn’t see straight. I called my friends, and they promised to help me get revenge. We decided to teach both Segun and the girl a lesson they would never forget.”

David’s face darkened with confusion and anger. “What did you do, Amelia?”

“We… we got a gun,” Amelia whispered, her voice barely audible. “I told them we’d shoot both Segun and the girl. I wanted to punish them for betraying me, for making me feel less than. I was willing to do anything, anything to make them suffer.”

David stood frozen, his body stiff with shock. He could hardly comprehend the woman standing before him, the woman he had loved and trusted, now confessing to something so unspeakable.

“You were going to kill them?” David finally managed to ask, his voice choked with disbelief.

Amelia nodded slowly, the weight of her words sinking in. “Yes. I was willing to destroy everything for a moment of revenge. But something happened that night. I couldn’t go through with it. I felt sick to my stomach, and I realized how far I had fallen. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t take a life over something so… petty.”

David closed his eyes, his breath ragged with emotion. “But why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you tell me any of this?”

Amelia’s shoulders slumped as she let out a sob. “I was ashamed, David. I was ashamed of who I had become. I didn’t want you to see the monster I had turned into.”

The room fell silent as the weight of Amelia’s confession hung in the air. The woman who had once been his love, his soulmate, was now a stranger—a stranger who had once been willing to commit an unspeakable act in the name of revenge and jealousy.

But the truth had come out, and David now had a decision to make. Could he forgive her? Could he look past the dark secrets that had been buried in her past? Or was this the end of their relationship, the end of the life they had built together?

As Amelia stood before him, waiting for his judgment, she knew that nothing would ever be the same again. The man she had deceived, the man she had loved, now knew the darkest part of her soul. And there was no going back from this.

“Amelia, I don’t know what to say,” David whispered, his voice breaking. “I need time to think.”

And with those words, their world began to crumble.
