Patrick Mahomes has been the best player in the NFL since he took over as the Kansas City Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018.
He has been tremendous not only statistically, but in wins and losses. Mahomes has complied a regular season record of 89-23 since debuting in Week 17 of 2017. He’s been even better during the playoffs, boasting a 17-3 record.

The only three teams to beat Mahomes in the postseason are the New England Patriots (2018 AFC Championship Game), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Super Bowl LV), and Cincinnati Bengals (2021 AFC Championship Game). Mahomes has beaten eight other teams in the playoffs, including the Buffalo Bills four times and the Houston Texans twice.
Why The Titans Should ABSOLUTELY Draft Shedeur Sanders #1 OverallWhy The Titans Should ABSOLUTELY Draft Shedeur Sanders #1 Overall
As pointed out by the official X account of FanDuel, Mahomes’ 17 postseason wins are more than what 12 NFL teams have in the history of their franchise.
When Mahomes wins his next postseason game, which could be as soon as Super Bowl LIX on February 9th, he will pass the Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, and Tennessee Titans in playoffs wins. That will give him more postseason victories than over half of the entire league.
At just 29-years-old, it’s a realistic possibility that he passes many more teams before he retires. As far as other players go, Mahomes already has the second-most playoff wins in history, trailing only legendary QB Tom Brady’s 34. If Mahomes plays at least eight more seasons and keeps at his current pace, he will pass Brady.
However, that’s going to be quite challenging. Mahomes continuing to win at that rate for the next eight years is borderline unrealistic. The Chiefs will certainly undergo a rebuild at some point during the second half of Mahomes’ career, with the likes of Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones retiring.
It will be interesting to see how Kansas City builds around Mahomes during his later years. His resume could be the greatest we’ve ever seen by the time he hangs up his cleats, but at this point it’s unclear how long he will continue to play. Regardless of how things play out down the road, we know that Mahomes will do the most with what he has and give his team a chance to win when it means the most.
