$50 Million Bail Rejected: Sean “Diddy” Combs Remains Behind Bars

U.S. rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs must remain in pretrial detention. A judge in New York denied his attorneys’ request for early release and a transfer to house arrest—even though they offered a bail package worth $50 million. The decision comes ahead of the sentencing hearing scheduled for early October for the musician, who was arrested last September on sexual offense charges.

House Arrest Request Denied

Combs’ defense lawyers argued that their client posed neither a flight risk nor a danger to the public. They offered the court an extensive bail package to allow the 55-year-old rapper to be placed under house arrest. However, the presiding judge had already rejected a similar request previously and maintained his position: Combs will remain in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, until sentencing.

Partially Found Guilty

At the center of the trial were serious allegations: prosecutors accused Combs of having sexually abused, threatened, and coerced women over several years to fulfill his wishes. During the globally followed proceedings, several victims described years of sexual and physical abuse.

However, in early July, the jury found Combs guilty on only one count: he was convicted in connection with prostitution—the least severe of the charges brought against him. The jury dismissed the more serious charges of conspiracy to commit organized crime and human trafficking.

Sentencing to Be Announced in October

The musician now faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years. Had he been found guilty on all counts, he could have faced life imprisonment. The exact sentence is scheduled to be announced on October 3, although a postponement is not ruled out.
