The Kid Laroi has delivered a stark warning to young artists, urging them to be cautious of industry insiders who promise overnight success.

Speaking during his keynote address at SXSW Sydney on Saturday, the 21-year-old pop star didn’t mince his words when offering advice to up-and-coming musicians.

Laroi, whose music has racked up over 11 billion streams on Spotify since his breakout in 2020, warned that anyone claiming to know the ‘secret’ to success was being deceitful.

‘If anybody in this audience is an artist and someone comes to you tomorrow and says, ‘Hey, you listen to everything I tell you and I’m gonna make you the biggest thing in the world,’ f***ing run, because it’s not true, it doesn’t exist,’ Laroi told the crowd.

The superstar, known for his collaborations with Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, stressed the importance of finding the right people to work with, rather than chasing empty promises of fame.

‘I’m still learning through everything, but the one thing I do know is there is no formula and there is no big secret as to how to be successful or how to do things… it’s about finding people you are aligned with,’ Laroi said.

The Kid Laroi, whose real name is Charlton Howard, also spoke about his strong connection with Justin Bieber, calling the global superstar one of his closest confidant

The two have worked together on the chart-topping hit Stay, and their friendship has remained a vital part of Laroi’s journey.

‘Another person I wanted to highlight today … maybe a lot of people don’t understand how much of a good leader and mentor he is but Justin Bieber, especially in the past couple of years since meeting and (living) in LA,’ Laroi said.

‘Not a lot of people have experienced what he’s experienced and I know I certainly haven’t, I’ve experienced a small part of it, and he’s been a super big help to me.

‘For me, I always know when I have a question or when I’m confused about something, I find he’s probably the first person I go and speak to.’

Diddy, 54, has been charged with sex trafficking and related crimes and will likely spend about 10 years behind bars if found guilty, with upwards of 120 alleged victims already coming forward.

The rapper’s relationship with Justin has come under renewed scrutiny in the wake of the allegations, claims which Diddy denies.

Justin himself, a new father to Jack Blues with wife Hailey, 27, is said to feel ‘disgusted’ by the allegations against Diddy and wants ‘nothing to do with’ him.
