Santos coach Cuca revealed that Neymar underwent knee surgery during the international break to prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

Neymar Determined to Reach the World Cup
Despite high expectations, Neymar was left out of the Brazilian national team’s squad for the World Cup friendly matches against France and Croatia last month.

The Brazilian striker was absent from Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Flamengo. Prior to that, Neymar started for Santos in their 2-0 victory over Remo on April 2nd.

Santos coach Cuca recently revealed that his player had undergone surgery not long ago. He said: “During the break, he underwent knee surgery, so he wasn’t training.”

Neymar underwent another surgery while not being called up to the Brazilian national team last March.
He spent four or five days recovering from that injury. Neymar focused on several fitness goals. This week, he focused on strength, speed, and endurance.

Neymar will be fully ready for the remaining 13 consecutive games until the next international break. So, we’ve been using this time, working with the coaching staff and medical team, to replenish his energy and maintain his form until mid-year.”

Although Cuca didn’t reveal the specific procedure Neymar underwent, reports suggest the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star received platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment. This method uses the player’s own blood to regenerate tissue and aid in the healing of minor injuries.

Following a serious injury in 2023, Neymar has never fully regained his form. Despite returning to the pitch and playing for Santos in recent months, his performances haven’t been convincing enough for coach Ancelotti to consider him for a World Cup squad.
