Oia is a municipality of Santorini that covers the whole of Therasia Island and the northwestern part of Santorini. The town is famous for its white-painted houses succeeding over one another. The town has two traditional housing types: kapetanospita and hyposkapha. The former are the two-story neo-classical houses dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The latter were the houses carved into the volcanic surface of the cliff and mostly used by crews. These stone or earth houses were long and narrow structures with vaulted roofs.

Monemvasia is a medieval castle town on a tied island connected to the Peloponnese coast by a tombolo of 400 meters in length. Founded in the 6th century, Monemvasia is one of the oldest fortified towns in Europe. Today, it is a picturesque tourist attraction site with stone mansions and Byzantine churches such as Agia Sofia and Christ Elkomenos.
